Community and Youth Goals

Dakar has an extensive history of working with gifted youth from middle school through high school. Year after year we continue to offer youth in the community the ability to intern and become a part of our family.  Dakar strives to educate children of all ages in the arts and involve them in cultural activities. Young people have an opportunity to work hands on with our professional cast and crew on and off stage. Getting students involved in our theater, film and television productions enables them to explore their dreams and future possibilities today not tomorrow.

Success is a Journey…. Not a Destination

Journey

  • Young Playwrights from the local school system write, and act in their own production.

  • High school and college age students intern for film / stage productions for school (college and high school level) credit

  • Children with disabilities stage their own play.

  • Create video against bullying (contest national)

Success

  • Kids and young adults alike audition for musical, television and film productions

  • Film short video about what they are doing to stay fit and active with dance, win free dance lessons.

  • Film video on adversity and overcoming prejudice.

Outside of our numerous interning opportunities, the founder of Dakar began a completely volunteer lead program at an area high school. This program gave students an opportunity to work shop and perform in a play, which had premiered at Play House Square. The students were under the guidance of the plays director, writer, producer and cast. At the end of the program, the enthusiastic students mounted the production at their school where it was a rousing success.

We are advocates for community youth programs and artist development.   We believe in the growth of the film and arts community within the community. A belief that lead us to open our doors not only to youth, but also the community’s resident’s introduction to the film, stage and television world.

During these introductions, we encourage the public to pursue their interests, no matter what age or skill level. Individuals who have had experience with Dakar’s programs, have come to learn our rich history of values and integrity in the media industry.

We are proud to give the community, students, young artists and interns alike, the experience needed for them to begin their careers locally and abroad.
